Darren Elliott, Registered Psychotherapist
Darren Elliott is a dedicated therapist specializing in relational therapy to address a wide range of challenges. As a survivor of narcissistic abuse and someone living with ADHD, he openly shares his experiences to create a relatable environment for clients. Having grown up in a narcissistic family system, Darren deeply understands the complexities of invisible generational trauma and emotional abuse, which informs his compassionate and insightful approach to therapy.
Darren’s foundational approach is rooted in Gestalt therapy, and he has furthered his knowledge through studying the works of prominent figures such as Terry Real, Ellyn Bader, Tara Brach, Peter Levine, Arielle Schwartz, and others. This diverse training enhances his ability to offer effective tools and strategies for personal growth and relational healing.
Originally from New Brunswick, Darren has lived and traveled around the world, enhancing his cultural understanding and ability to connect with the diverse population in Ontario. His experiences include two years in Japan, two years in the UK, a winter in Harbin, China, and travel to various countries, including India, Peru, the US, Slovenia, the Philippines, and about 20 others, many of which he explored for a month or more. These journeys have enriched his understanding of cultural and religious differences as well as family systems.
With a background in Business and Education, Darren adopts a solutions-focused perspective, emphasizing personal growth and the cultivation of deeper, more connected relationships. He believes in the power of loving kindness as a foundational behavior, recognizing our fundamental human needs to love, be loved, belong, and feel accepted as we are.
Darren offers individual, couples, and relationship sessions via online platforms, prioritizing the convenience and comfort of remote therapy. While in-person sessions are available, online therapy is highly encouraged for its flexibility. He operates under the premise that we exist within the context of our families and loved ones, rather than in isolation. He recognizes that issues of disconnection, such as those stemming from narcissistic dynamics, cannot be effectively healed alone but require relationship-based interventions. By addressing the primary relationships within a family, Darren facilitates a comprehensive therapy process that promotes healing and connection.
His office background reflects his artistic journey and cultural insights through artifacts and mementos accumulated from his travels, underscoring the rich experiences that inform his therapeutic approach.
Darren offers individual, couples, and relationship sessions, understanding that we exist in context of our families and loved ones, not in isolation. Issues of disconnection, such as narcissism, do not heal alone but in relationship, so the primary relationships in a family are all relevant to the therapy process.
